Good to know: Page counts that are not a multiple of 4 are padded with blank pages at the end (for example 10 pages become 12: two blanks). Move or remove pages first if the blanks should be elsewhere. All limits

To make a booklet from a PDF with OnCloudPDF, select the file, choose the sheet size and binding side, and click Create booklet. The pages are reordered for saddle-stitch binding, two per landscape sheet, with blank pages added to reach a multiple of four. Print the result double-sided, flipping on the short edge, then fold the stack in half and staple on the fold. It runs in your browser.

How to use PDF Booklet

  1. Select the PDF. The preview shows each printed side as it will come out of the printer.
  2. Choose the sheet (fit to the pages, A4 or Letter) and the binding side (left, or right for right-to-left languages).
  3. Click Create booklet and download the new PDF.
  4. Print it double-sided with flip on the short edge, stack the sheets in the printed order, fold in half and staple on the fold.

What it does and what it does not do

  • Page counts that are not a multiple of 4 are padded with blank pages at the end (for example 10 pages become 12: two blanks). Move or remove pages first if the blanks should be elsewhere.
  • Pages are drawn as they are (still vectors and text, not pictures), scaled down to fit half of the sheet and centred. There is no creep compensation for thick booklets, no margin or gutter setting and no crop marks.
  • Mixed page sizes are fitted into equal halves of the sheet, so smaller pages look smaller. Links and form fields are not kept; bookmarks are not carried over.
  • Double-sided printing depends on your printer driver: pick flip on the short edge. If the back sides come out upside down, the printer was set to flip on the long edge.
  • The output sheets are always landscape, with the larger of the original page sizes (Fit pages), or A4 or Letter.
  • Password-protected PDFs ask for the password first.

Is my file uploaded?

The PDF is read and rearranged in your browser. Pages are copied into the booklet locally; nothing is uploaded.

How the pages are ordered

For a booklet of 8 pages the four printed sides are 8 and 1, 2 and 7, 6 and 3, 4 and 5. The first sheet carries the outer cover on its front and the inner pages 2 and 7 on its back; each later sheet nests inside the previous one when you fold. The preview in the tool shows this for your document, with blank pages marked.

Right-to-left booklets

Choose binding on the right for Arabic, Hebrew or Japanese books read from right to left. Each spread is mirrored so that the first page sits on the right, and folding and stapling work the same way.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print a PDF as a booklet?

Create the booklet here, print the new PDF double-sided with flip on the short edge, stack the sheets, fold the stack in half and staple on the fold.

What happens if the page count is not a multiple of 4?

Blank pages are added at the end until it is. A 10-page document becomes 12 pages, with two blanks.

Which printer setting should I use?

Double-sided (duplex) with flip on the short edge. If the back sides are upside down, the printer used the long edge.

Does it work for right-to-left books?

Yes. Choose binding on the right and every spread is mirrored.

Does the booklet keep the text selectable?

Yes. Pages are placed as they are, not turned into pictures, so text and vectors stay sharp.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The booklet is built in your browser.
